The mission of the Holiday House Tour, organized by the Newcomers Club of New Canaan, is to give back to the community by supporting local 501(c) (3) charities and service organizations that are based in New Canaan and/or serve the town’s residents. The 2019 Holiday House Tour was the 27th biennial charity event to take place since the Club’s inception in 1957, and it has given over half a million dollars to local causes and social agencies since. During a tour year, local 501(c)(3) organizations are invited to fill out a grant application and identify specific projects, programs, or initiatives that they wish to fund within a 12-month period after distribution. The 2019 Holiday House Tour achieved a record breaking year and has donated $100,000 to a dozen Fairfield County non-profit organizations. The organizations are as follows:
 

·      A Better Chance, Inc of New Canaan providing academically talented minority children with access to some of our nation’s    finest college preparatory schools, will receive funds for students summer programs, school activities, fee and tutor expenses and travel and college visits.

·     Domestic Violence Crisis Center (DVCC) providing effective services, support and education for the prevention and elimination of domestic violence across Connecticut and beyond, will receive funds for its SustainAbility CT, a program that offers one-on-one educational sessions, as well as workshops, to help survivors overcome the impact of financial abuse.

·      Filling In the Blanks, fighting childhood hunger in Fairfield and Westchester counties, will use the funds for its Weekend Meal Program.  The donation will provide weekend meals for 21 children for one calendar year.

·      Get About New Canaan, providing transportation services to the residents of New Canaan who are unable to drive, will receive funds for a replacement wheelchair accessible van.

·      Gods Acre Christmas Caroling Foundation- a tradition in the New Canaan Community to sing carols around the town Christmas Tree on Christmas Eve on God’s Acre, the organizers will receive funds to construct a permanent band structure that will be used year-round for caroling and the enjoyment of residents

·      Horizons at New Canaan Country Schoola program that supports underserved children and youth through year-round academic and enrichment programs, will use the money to fund the Horizons Summer Program which is a 6-week intensive session focusing on a rich curriculum of literacy and math.  

·       LiveGirl, a girls’ leadership organization in New Canaan, will use the funds to cover the cost of five scholarships to Camp LiveGirl 2020.

·      New Canaan Mounted Troop, building leadership, responsibility and confidence in youth through sound horsemanship and to enriching the lives of individuals with special needs through equine assisted activities, will fund the Super Troopers program which is an equine assisted therapeutic program for children and adults with special needs.

·       New Canaan Historical Society, dedicated to celebrating New Canaan’s history since 1889, will use the funds to support the costs associated with hosting the 2020 and 2021 New Canaan History Day as well as pay for some much-needed maintenance on one of the buildings on the property.

·       The New Canaan Library will use the funds to support the creation of a new library in New Canaan that is currently in the planning process.

·       New Canaan Parent Support Group, dedicated to providing an inclusive and safe environment for parents of loved ones affected by addiction and substance use, will use the funds to support its annual Addiction Awareness Vigil in 2020.

·    STAR, serving individuals of all ages who have developmental disabilities, as well as providing support services to their families, will use the funds for its Birth to Three Early Intervention Program to cover costs of professional therapists (including travel), maintaining an assistive technology & resource library and family support services.
